We haven’t officially launched our new spring line yet, but we can’t help but share a few of the hot trends you can expect to see come warmer weather. We’ve been checking out the newest designs from our global artisans, and it’s clear that the runways are taking a cue from these jewelry innovators. Here’s a quick look at what you can expect!

Big, big, big. The biggest news in jewelry is indeed big – jewelry will be big, bold, layered and prominent in the year to come – with broad cuffs, shoulder-length earrings, necklaces and bracelets piled one upon, and our personal favorite – the look-at-me cocktail ring. Hilal and Ma-Saang have long been two of our favorite designs.

All-Metal Jewelry

Bold jewelry constructed of silver, bronze, gold and brass is everywhere – and you know we’ve got the edgiest metal looks around. Our stunning metal cuffs include the curled-ribbon Facelio, industrial Plexus and electric Sunn designs. Or grab a pair of fierce Tulay earrings and go bad-girl for a day.

Motif Jewelry

Animal motifs such as elephants, birds, insects and snakes are hugely popular, and our international designers make them incredibly hip. Snake-like Siena bracelets, playful Phueng earrings and sea-themed Aquarius pendants all fit the motif bill.

Pearls Have the Edge

The iconic symbol of classic sophistication, pearls this season are taking a decidedly edgier turn. Colored pearls and pearls used in novel designs are causing a stir right now. Pearls in non-traditional hues like lavender and mellow golden hues are definitely in, and you’ll see Terrene designers using pearls in totally new contexts.

Most surprising is the convergence of the trends toward pearl jewelry and big, flamboyant accessories. Big cuffs, long earrings and piled-on necklaces will be everywhere come spring and summer – and pearls are in the mix. Maria Jose Carvao pairs them with huge boxy gems, for example. And our Turkish line features fluttery Kashi pearls, which some describe as a cross between a pearl and a rose petal. And our bridal collection takes the colors and symbolism of pearls into totally new shapes using sculpted mother of pearl.

I’ve always been big, bold jewelry kind of woman, but even I will be wearing these cool styles this spring!

Argentina Travels

I traveled to Argentina to search for jewelry designers in Buenos Aires. There is an amazing number of gifted artists. One day I visited the Museo de Arte Popular Jose Hernandez to view the textile exposition. It is so impressive to see the creative works of Sabina Wicki, who makes cuff bracelets from paper, and Marina Callis, who blends organza, copper wire and mono filament into a brooch.

Fabiana Gadano met with me one day at her studio in San Telmo. She is an artisan who has studied with other designers throughout the world developing new styles for her artistry. Fabiana also teaches her techniques to local and visiting students. I’ve attached a photo of her studio.

We are planning on carrying some of these Argentinean designs in January.

It seems that in the world of fashion we’re always trying to discover the latest trend or newest hot item. “Does this go with that”, or “is this too much” or “gold or silver”. Well the answer lies with Aunt Betty.

Aunt Betty is 88 years old and lives outside Detroit, Michigan. She works daily and still has plenty of time for her hair and nails. No worry here about fashion as Aunt Betty wears whatever she wants, wherever she wants. And, wears it well! From her bunny rabbit earrings with pink stones to her freshwater pearl necklace, diamond rings on one hand, turquoise on the other. Plus, bracelets galore.

I love Aunt Betty for showing us the way.
